Enough Learning! Some Action Please!

Many people spend their life in the learning stage and never graduate to the action stage. Undoubtedly, the pursuit of knowledge is very important, and it is encouraged by all societies and religions. Knowledge opens doors of prosperity, social status and spirituality, not because of possessing the knowledge but rather because of the applied knowledge. The saying knowledge is power is partially true; a more accurate definition would be knowledge is potential power.

There are many forms of knowledge; personal or general knowledge – being familiar and aware of relevant areas of your existence. Procedural or technical knowledge, or as Napoleon Hill describes as specialized knowledge, having the capacity to do something and excel at it. The third type is factual knowledge – one plus one or I can see the sun. There’s also spiritual knowledge, being conscious of your spirituality and connection to a higher power. The types of knowledge mentioned here are my own views on the subject and are by no means definitive.

Knowledge has no limits because the sources of knowledge are limitless. Although seeking knowledge is a virtue, accumulating knowledge to no end without using or transferring this knowledge to others could be sinful. Many people go after knowledge with a vengeance; they learn this and they learn that, and before acting on what they have just learned, they are out there again chasing after more knowledge to add to their knowledge arsenal. Fact is all the knowledge in the world won’t amount to anything unless used by the beholder to do something or create something. Taking action is what transforms knowledge into its intrinsic values. If one has sought the knowledge to do a specific task and succeeded in his pursuit but did not take action, is this going to lead to any financial gain or any social distinction? I would think not.

Hoarding knowledge is not beneficial to the individual or his society. If you acquired the information to do a task, do it before going on another knowledge safari that will not bear any fruit. That’s why I say, enough learning, some action please!
